Explore Barbados - St. Nicholas Abbey

Our next stop on our trip around Barbados we find ourselves at St. Nicholas Abbey, an architetural masterpiece that is bringing tradtion back to rum making.

St. Nicholas Abbey is located in the northern parish of St. Peter, with stunning views of the north and east coast. The Great House was built in 1658 and is one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere. Guests to the plantation are given a guided tour of the Great House, showcasing the perfectly preserved craftsmanship and priceless historical furniture throughout. The tour also takes you through the stable house and old chapel, guests are invited to watch a film explaining more about the rich history of St. Nicholas Abbey. After this brief presentation you will get the chance to try some of the smooth small batch rum made on the plantation, there is also light refreshments provided for the children.

St. Nicholas Abbey prides itself in continuing the traditions of small batch crafted rum making, producing and aging their own custom made rum in the traditional fashion used in Barbados for over 350 years ago. Visitors will be given a tour of the fully operational rum factory and custom built copper steam mill which are used to produce St. Nicholas Abbey Rum. The tour continues through the beautifully landscaped grounds and if you are lucky you will have the pleasure of meeting Baby and Lance the resident Cockatoos who love to have a chat. Dont forget to pick up a custom engraved bottle to remember your trip by, a great way to celebrate your trip with friends once you return home.
